Dr Conleth O’Loughlin is an expert in offshore geotechnics focusing on anchoring of floating systems, including oil and gas facilities and offshore renewable devices.

In particular his research on the high speed penetration of objects in soil has direct application to dynamically installed ‘torpedo’ anchors and free-fall tools for measuring the strength of the seabed. This expertise has led to the development of a new anchor system, which has been sold under licence to industry.

As the centrifuge manager at the Centre for Offshore Foundation Systems he manages the geotechnical centrifuge facilities which are widely regarded as setting and maintaining the highest international standards in geotechnical physical modelling and which are routinely used by the offshore industry to assist in the design of seabed infrastructure.
